Beard Claims IHRA Pro-Am Win at Darlington

Duck Tape Racing's Michael Beard opened up a sizzling September with a strong Stock Eliminator victory on day one of the IHRA Summit Pro-Am Tour at Darlington Dragway, in Darlington, SC. Beard pushed the I/CM '80 Volare to the #7 qualifying position in the 44-car field, showcasing the performance of Sloan Racing Engines, Mickey Thompson Tires, CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil, K&N Filters, Bearden Oil's Sunoco Race Fuels, Bradley Auto Parts, and FINISHED Ultimate Performance Metal Finishing.

Consistency was a proven commodity as well, as the car barely moved more than one hundredth of a second over the course of two days, even in the heat of the day and windy conditions. Beard added to the winning recipe by having only one reaction time worse than an .022 on Saturday, and close driving at the stripe. Beard defeated Pine Valley Sportsman Nationals champ Phil Jackson of Rayville, La., in a hard-fought final. Jackson posted a great .018 light and ran a dead-on 7.547, but Beard trimmed both ends of the track with an .012 light and a perfect 6.940 on a 6.94 dial. The win was backed up by a quarter-final finish on Sunday's race the following day.
