Duck, Duck, Duck

The weekend of June 20-21 turned out to be an outstandingly successful weekend for the Duck Tape racing team. Two Duck Tape cars converged on Rockingham Dragway, in Rockingham, N.C., for the rescheduled IHRA Summit Pro-Am Tour event, originally slated for the rainy first weekend of March. Those two cars were the H/CM Volare owned and driven by Beard and the J/SA Mirada that Beard drove to 6th in the Super Stock national points for Johnny Fisher, piloted this weekend in Stock by Fisher's son John. Saturday's qualifying found the two Duck Tape cars flying in formation, 13th and 14th in the 36-car field.

Saturday afternoon, the pair split, with Beard loading up to head for a Summit Super Series points event at Pageland Dragway, in Pageland, S.C., while Fisher stayed at Rockingham for the CCRA (Carolina Class Racers Association) points-earning Stock/Super Stock Combo. By 10:30 PM, both cars were in the winner's circle! Beard claimed his second Modified ET win of the year at Pageland, while young John Fisher skillfully wheeled his way to his first career victory. Due to his limited race schedule at Pageland, Beard had lagged in the track points chase, but the win vaulted him ten places to land in a tie for 13th. despite missing three events.

Fisher capped an already successful weekend by continuing his string of round wins, all the way into the final round of Stock Eliminator in Sunday's Summit Pro-Am eliminations, where he took runner-up honors alongside race winner Terry Taylor.
